The hospital is also a site for collaborative cancer clinical trials groups. Other specialist research areas at Calvary Mater Newcastle include:

Researchers at the hospital work closely with the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), the University of Newcastle and many other Australian and international collaborators.
Mater researchers have been able to attract significant funds to support their research activities. However, further funds are always required to continue and enhance these activities which are ultimately of benefit not only to our hospital patients, but to all people with cancer and other illnesses.
