Wig Week LogoWIG WEEK
Cancer Care Appeal Raising Funds for Cancer Care, Comfort and Research

In October this year, our hospital again embarked upon a large scale, high profile and very colourful fundraising campaign with help from the whole community, raising funds for much needed equipment to enhance patient care, comfort and research initiatives at our hospital.

Newcastle Perm staff present cheque to Mater Haematology Ward's Cathie Milton and
Dr Sandra Deveridge

The “Wig Week” campaign started in 2002 and is a concept that has come about through the association of loss of hair experienced by our patients on receiving treatment for cancer.

Wig Week has been very well received by the people of the Hunter region due to the Mater being very close to a lot of peoples’ hearts in this area. This is a Hunter based cancer charity giving back to the people of this region.

Donate to the Mater

Newcastle Mater Hospital's Radiation Oncology Department treats between 90-110 patients per day with radiotherapy treatment. Our Chemotherapy Suite also treats 150-170 patients each week.

Why not make a donation to support our cancer service - together we can make a difference to cancer care, comfort and research in the Hunter region.

Donations, no matter the financial value, are always appreciated by the hospital because they enable us to purchase new equipment and to help make our patients' journey with cancer a more comfortable one.  You can specify exactly where you wish your donation to be applied. Donations may also be given to the hospital in the form of bequests.

All donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.

If you wish to make a donation please contact us at: contactus@mater.health.nsw.gov.au . We will contact you immediately to discuss your enquiry, and when you make a donation a receipt will be forwarded to you from the hospital.

Donation forms may be obtained from the nurse in your ward/unit.

Bequests

Many of the hospital's supporters have left a bequest to us in their will. Your bequest helps us to continue our work to provide care for patients with cancer.

Donations benefit general medicine, oncology, research, drug and alcohol services, palliative care and to continue or quality health care provided here at Newcastle Mater Hospital. Your contribution can be a fixed amount or a percentage of your estate. You can nominate to assist in the general provision of our services or your bequest can be directed toward a specific unit, project or type of service

How to Make a Bequest

To assist in the preparation of a bequest, may we advise the following wording:-

I, (name), given ($amount) free of all duties and testamentary expense to the Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital for the purpose of patient care/service development, and I direct that the receipt of the General Manager shall be sufficient discharge of my executors for this bequest.

If you would like more information about services provided at our hospital and how best your intended bequest could be used, please do not hesitate to contact our General Manager.
