Surgery
The Pre-Procedures Clinic
The Pre-Procedure Clinic is located on Level 4 in ward 4H.
If you are coming into hospital for an operation you may be required to come to a Pre-Procedure Clinic. If you require an anaesthetic for your operation, we need to make sure that you are medically fit for your surgery.
If you are required to attend a Pre-Procedure Clinic you will be notified by the hospital and an appointment will be made for you within two weeks prior to your surgery date.
At the Pre-Procedure Clinic you will be seen by a nurse, who will talk to you about your procedure and give you any instructions you may need to follow. You may also need to be seen by an Anaesthetist, your Surgeon/s, a Pharmacist or Resident Medical Officer. The secretary will also make sure that all your details are correct for admission.
At the Pre-Procedure Clinic you may be required to have some tests. Some of these tests may include:
- ECG (Electrocardiogram) – to check your heart
- Blood tests
- Chest x-ray
- Spirometry – to check your breathing
You will need to bring all your medications, a urine sample and your Medicare card with you to your appointment. Please wear clothing that you can easily remove for examinations and tests.
